Follow me to my new site at Emmaus Path

…And also continue to follow me here!

Life and Ministry 2

To all of you who’ve been following along with my writing over the last several years, Thank you!

I’ve finally taken a step I’ve been meaning to for some time, and created a separate site, at, where all my faith-based writing can be collected without being mixed in with the often seedy world of political commentary.

As you know if you’ve been reading here, in my day job I am a journalist, columnist and editor. But, there is another side to me and my work. My calling is in ministry. Currently I am a lay minister in The Episcopal Church, in serious discernment to Holy Orders. When I launched my personal blog I started adding in all my thoughts, in writing, on faith and religion. Soon, those overtook my other writing — which is awesome. But, I’ve become uncomfortable of late with my political commentary appearing alongside my faith-based writing, on the same site.

It is good for each of us to know where we stand on politics and social questions. And, we should invest the energy to be engaged in our civic life, to form strong opinions, defend them, to advocate for causes and to vote. This is the stuff that makes democracy work (er, sort of). But, when we step into the realm of faith, I believe we enter a realm that transcends worldly differences.

So, I’ve moved all my faith-based writing to My older faith-based posts remain here, but all new entries in that vein will be on Emmaus Path.

If you enjoy my political wonkiness, journalism pieces on suicide prevention and such, and my (bad) attempts at haiku and short stories, please continue following me here — I will continue to add to this site. And, if you’ve been enjoying my faith-based writing, please go to, and give it a follow. God bless you all, and thanks for following along!

    • Madeline, thank you! I’ve really valued your input on my work, and I’ve struggled with the decision to separate out the two sides of my work. One always will influence the other, and some pieces may appear on both site … pieces where faith calls to a faith-inspired political or social statement. But, as I go further in my discernment to Holy Orders, I want to create a space where I hope to offer the Peace of Christ without the clouding of partisan difference … but also without sacrificing the Gospel call to social justice. It’s a balance I don’t quite know how to make. As always, your input is welcome and cherished. Have a blessed day!
